House of Rajah Jewelers has served St. Thomas since 1973. Founded by Victor Chugani, the downtown boutique remains a family business led by his son, Gobind.

A family journey

In 1965, Victor and his wife moved to the United States from Hong Kong and India after an American friend offered to sponsor them. The friend encouraged them to open a business and join volunteer clubs to build local ties. Victor knew the duty-free trade from Hong Kong. He opened his first store in Louisville, Kentucky, before the family moved to St. Thomas in 1973 and established House of Rajah.

Growing up in the business

Gobind learned beside his father, working after school during his junior and senior years of high school. His interest in jewelry later took him overseas to find diamonds and colored gemstones for House of Rajah’s customers.

Creating together

Gobind met his wife, Kusum, while she was visiting St. Thomas with her family. Together they have shaped the store’s jewelry collections, bringing her creative perspective together with his experience in sourcing and design. The boutique also carries timepieces.

Looking ahead

The Chugani family and their team continue to welcome visitors and returning customers to St. Thomas. As Gobind has said, “We want to thank all our family and friends for your trust and support throughout the years.” Their commitment to honesty, quality, and attentive service continues to guide House of Rajah.
